CIBC AM adds resource fund manager

CIBC Asset Management has expanded its portfolio management team through the addition of resource manager Scott Vali.

Vali joins the company as portfolio manager and vice president of equities. He’ll be lead manager of the CIBC Precious Metals Fund, CIBC Canadian Resources Fund, CIBC Energy Fund and Renaissance Global Resource Fund.

He has more than 13 years of portfolio management experience. He not only spent a decade managing major resource investment mandates, but also, prior to joining CIBC, was vice president and portfolio manager at CI Investments.

Lawrence Smith, vice president of equity research and mining specialist, will co-manage the CIBC Precious Metals Fund, while Brian See, vice president of equity research and energy specialist, will co-manage the CIBC Energy Fund.
