What is allowed? What isn't? How have you personally dealt with compliance? Do you have best practices to share?

Personally I try to stay away from all forms of social media.  It's a scourge on society.  My new clients come from personal referrals and introductions and I get to pick and choose who I want to work with.  The last thing I need is a whack of people who don't fit my criteria contacting me for advice.  Plus I treat my client relationships with the utmost of confidence and social media might destroy all that.

Hi Jaq,

Social media is the cornerstone of our business here at Life Guard Insurance. We run Canada’s
best online blog for life &
health insurance
focused on delivering useful consumer information about
insurance topics. We also have an extensive social media presence, including Twitter, LinkedIn (my personal
profile), Facebook,
YouTube
and a few other new online tools to curate content. Some people might think
that social media is a scourge on society, and that is fine. Not every person
in Canada will use social media to search for insurance and investment advice,
and there is still a very big and important place for advisors like Jim Mason
(comment above). The reality is that the numbers of people looking online is
huge and growing faster than any other media distribution system in our
history. If you are in the business of marketing you services directly to
interested clients, there is no better way than to do so online.

But the game isn’t that simple. It is very competitive out
there to be successful. That is why I have begun offering a comprehensive
solution for complete internet presence and social media marketing for
insurance brokers across Canada through our new Internet
Affiliate Marketing Program
. For those brokers who want to be online but
don’t have the time or know where to begin, we can provide them with the
website and all the tools to get online fast, and start seeing results in the
form of leads.

Thanks for your question. Hope the discussion continues.
