The government of Canada and Nova Scotia have signed three employment-related agreements. These are:
- an agreement that stipulates the Canada Job Grant will now be delivered though the new Canada-Nova Scotia Job Fund in the province. The agreement was formerly known as a labour market agreement;
- the new Canada-Nova Scotia Labour Market Agreement for Persons with Disabilities (LMAPD), which was created to better connect disabled Canadians with employers. The government’s planning to provide more than $8.2 million per year to Nova Scotia and that contribution that will be matched by the province; and
- a renewal of the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers agreement, a federal-provincial/territorial cost-shared initiative that provides unemployed older workers in eligible communities with training to re-enter the workforce (it represents a three-year federal investment of more than $2.3 million in Nova Scotia).
“Nova Scotia has the potential for strong economic and employment growth over the coming years,” says Peter Mackay, regional minister for Nova Scotia, and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. “[But] to ensure the province’s prosperity, job openings have to be filled.”
