Canadian mutual fund assets reached $1.08 trillion in May, says the Investment Funds Institute of Canada.

Year-to-date, industry AUM increased by $82.9 billion, or 8.3%.

Net sales for the mutual funds industry totalled $5.01 billion. Net sales of long-term funds were $5.34 billion and net redemptions of money market funds were $334.5 million.

Balanced funds’ net sales in May 2014 totalled $4.27 billion compared to net sales of $3.91 billion in April. Year-to-date net sales for balanced funds totalled $26.0 billion compared to net sales of $23.3 billion for the same period last year.

Bond funds’ net sales in May 2014 totalled $323.6 million compared to net sales of $305.5 million the month before. Year-to-date net sales for bond funds totalled $92.4

million compared to net sales of $3.47 billion for the same period last year.

Equity funds’ net sales in May 2014 totalled $335.1 million compared to April’s net sales of $78.3 million. Year-to-date net sales for equity funds totalled $5.51 billion compared to net sales of $685.8 million for the same period last year.
