Federal Minister of State for Finance Kevin Sorenson was in Calgary this week where he stopped by Christian Adoption Services — which helped him and his wife adopt two children over 20 years ago — to tout the expansion of the adoption expense tax credit.

Originally announced in this year’s federal budget, the maximum amount of the credit increased to $15,000 from $11,774 and applies to adoptions of children under the age of 18 finalized after 2013.

Eligible expenses include adoption agency, immigration and document translation fees, as well as court and legal costs.
