Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Julie Martini, former chief operating officer with Advocis, was appointed vice-president of public affairs with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce effective April 24, a release said. In the role, she’ll advocate for Ontario’s business community and drive policy decisions, the release said. In March, Martini filed a claim against Advocis for constructive and wrongful dismissal, after the association told her in January she’d be laid off for up to 35 weeks. In an email on Friday, Douglas Smith, counsel for Advocis and partner with Borden Ladner Gervais in Toronto, said Advocis has no comment on the lawsuit.
  • A $500-million, six-woman wealth team from Halifax recently joined Richardson Wealth, coming from TD Wealth Private Investment Advice. Portfolio manager and investment advisor Mary Ellen Byrne leads the team, which also includes advisor Julie Grant, associate advisor Paula Campbell, and associates Jennifer O’Connor, Lisa Kuehn and Noha Elkady. In 2022, Richardson Wealth announced its intention to reach 50% women advisors by 2027.
  • This week will be Michelle Connolly‘s last as senior vice-president of advanced wealth planning with Wellington-Altus Private Wealth Inc. She worked at Wellington-Altus for more than three years. In a LinkedIn post, she thanked the firm and her colleagues for their support.
  • Jeff Li is now vice-president for T. Rowe Price (Canada) Inc.’s intermediary business in Canada. His responsibilities include leading advisor sales and service within the company’s separately managed account business. Li was most recently a regional vice-president with TD Asset Management, involved in business development and client servicing for advisors in Toronto.
  • Travis Machen was named CEO and group head of the global banking and markets business within Scotiabank, effective May 6. He was most recently managing director and head of banks, diversified and financial infrastructure with U.S. giant Morgan Stanley, and he worked with JPMorgan Chase in the past.
