Mackenzie shuffles management duties

Mackenzie Financial has announced a change of portfolio manager for six of its most popular mandates. The move comes as the company parts ways with sub-advisor Henderson Global Investors.

Effective immediately, Mark Grammer, senior vice-president of investments, has been named the co-leader of the Mackenzie Growth Team, and has been appointed lead manager of Mackenzie Universal International Stock Fund and Mackenzie Universal International Stock Class.

The 20-year veteran is already lead manager of Mackenzie Universal Global Growth Fund and co-manager of Mackenzie Growth Fund, Mackenzie Universal Global Infrastructure Fund, Mackenzie Focus Japan Class and Mackenzie Focus Far East Class.

Effective September 4, 2011, the following Mackenzie Focus funds’ portfolio management teams and mandates will consist of:

Mackenzie Focus Far East Class will be managed by three instead of four portfolio management teams, with equal distribution of the fund’s assets among managers:

  • Dennis Lai, RCM Asia Pacific Ltd. – Asia, ex-Japan (Small/Mid Cap)
  • David Tiley, Mackenzie Cundill – Asia, ex-Japan (Deep Value)
  • Mark Grammer, Mackenzie Universal – Asia, ex-Japan (Growth)

Mackenzie Focus Japan Class will be managed by two instead of three portfolio management teams, with equal distribution of the Fund’s assets among managers:

  • Mark Grammer, Mackenzie Universal – Japanese equities (Growth)
  • Koji Nakatsuka, RCM Asia Pacific Ltd. – Japanese equities (Small/Mid Cap)

Mackenzie Focus International Class assets previously managed by Henderson Global Investors will be managed by Mark Grammer, with equal distribution of the Fund’s assets among managers:

  • Mark Grammer, Mackenzie Universal – International equities (Growth)
  • Paul Musson, Mackenzie Ivy – International equities (Growth/Value Blend)
  • David Tiley, Mackenzie Cundill – International equities (Deep Value)

Mackenzie Focus Canada Fund assets previously managed by Henderson Global Investors will be invested in Mackenzie Focus Fund, with distribution of the Fund’s assets as indicated:

  • Mackenzie Focus Fund, foreign content, multi-manager (25%)
  • Dina DeGeer, Dennis Starritt, Pete Robic, Bluewater Investment Management – Mid Cap Blend (15%)
  • Ian Ainsworth, Mackenzie Universal – Large Cap Growth (15%)
  • Paul Musson, David Arpin, Mackenzie Ivy – Large Cap Growth/Value Blend (15%)
  • Norman Raschkowan, Mackenzie Maxxum – Large Cap Blend (15%)
  • Lawrence Chin, Mackenzie Cundill – Mid Cap Value (15%)
