Weddings aren’t cheap or easy to plan, especially when your chosen venue starts major renovations before your big day.

A newly married couple from New Brunswick recently found out it pays to be patient, however. As CTV reports, Peter and Peggy MacLeod were given a special gift at their rehearsal dinner for being so accommodating while the resort they had chosen underwent $35-million restorations after they’d booked it.

Though the gift from hotel staff appeared to be simply a box filled with balloons, a note attached to one of the balloons revealed the resort wanted to host the entire event for free.
