Cottage season has arrived.

As such, the Insurance Bureau of Canada urges all motorists to consider a few road safety tips before they get behind the wheel—especially if they’ll be using unfamiliar and rural roads.

It adds more fatalities occur during the summer months than at any other time of year.

Here are some vacation tips to offer clients:

  • Research the regulations of the provinces in which you’ll be travelling.
  • Have your vehicle checked before your departure to ensure everything is working properly. Check fluid levels, tire pressure, and all lights.
  • Before you tow a trailer or haul a load, make sure your vehicle is properly equipped for the job. Check your owner’s manual or contact your car dealer.
  • If you see an animal in the road, sound your horn in a series of short bursts to frighten it away.
