Global ETFs saw inflows of US$45.94 billion in April, bringing the year-to-date total to US$145.74 billion, consulting firm ETFGI said Friday.

Total assets invested in ETFs reached a new high of US$5.57 trillion at the end of April, a 3.2% gain from the previous month.

April marked the 63rd consecutive month of net inflows into global ETFs, the ETFGI report said. At month’s end there were almost 8,000 ETFs and exchange-traded products (ETPs) from 412 providers. The products are listed on 71 exchanges in 58 countries.

Equity ETFs accounted for US$34.74 billion of inflows in April, bringing 2019 equity inflows to US$116.54 billion, down from the same period a year ago. Fixed income ETFs, however, saw year-over-year gains, attracting US$12.35 billion in April and US$68.62 billion so far this year.

April was the biggest month of 2019 so far for Canadian ETFs, as well, with $2.3 billion flowing into funds and fixed income also leading the way.
