BCSC names new commissioners

Deb Abbey, a champion of socially responsible investing, has been appointed a commissioner of the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), along with three other industry veterans.

The BCSC announced the appointments on Wednesday. Previously, Abbey was founder, president and CEO of Real Assets Investment Management, and later became the CEO of the Responsible Investment Association (RIA).

Abbey is joined by Deb Armour, who was previously senior vice president at Raymond James Ltd., general counsel of the Canadian Venture Exchange, and most recently chief legal officer of the Law Society of B.C.

James Kershaw, who is currently Pacific Region head for TD Wealth Private Wealth Management, has also been named to the commission, along with Marion Shaw, a retired securities lawyer who was previously partner at Bull, Housser & Tupper LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright LLP) in Vancouver.

“Deborah, Marion, Jim and Deb bring a diverse breadth of experience to the commission,” said Brenda Leong, chair and CEO of the BCSC. “Their skills and expertise in law, business, corporate finance and capital markets will be tremendous assets in carrying out their duties.”
