Toronto-based BlackRock Asset Management Inc. has appointed Helen Hayes as the new head of iShares Canada, the firm said in an internal memo.

Hayes spent the last 11 years with CIBC Capital Markets, most recently as head of international equity sales and trading.

“Helen is an important leader in the Canadian financial services industry, bringing more than two decades of experience at Canadian and global investment banks to our team […] and has a proven track record for building growth businesses and diversifying revenue streams,” said Armando Senra, head of Americas for iShares, in the memo.

“[H]er experience will help us deepen client relationships and strengthen iShares’ leadership position in Canada.”

Industry veteran Pat Chiefalo stepped down as head of iShares Canada in February and joined Invesco in March as head of ETFs and indexed strategies for Canada.

Following his departure, San Francisco–based Madeleine Sinclair was named head of iShares Canada in March.

Warren Collier, who is based in New York and is BlackRock’s global head of index strategy, has been interim head of iShares Canada over the past two months, the memo said, adding that Collier will become chief operating officer for Canada when current COO Eleanor McIntyre retires.
