Canada’s richest people revealed

You may never get to meet the people on Canadian Business’ richest people list – or manage their wealth – but chances are you’re using one of their products or services right now.

Perhaps you’re reading this story while using a Rogers internet package, or your lunch today is a sandwich with meat from Maple Leaf Foods and cheese from Saputo. Or are you planning to grab a ride on Uber to make a business meeting on time?

On this years’ list are a few familiar names – even in retirement, manufacturing magnate Frank Stronach makes the cut – but there are newcomers too.

The arrivistes include Calgary’s Garrett Camp, who co-founded Uber and is worth $9.18 billion, and Joseph Tsai, who helped co-found Alibaba, and now has $7.3 billion to show for it.

There are also a number of estates on the list, including that of real estate developer and philanthropist David Azrieli, who died in 2014, leaving assets now worth $3.92 billion. His daughter Naomi administers the Azrieli Foundation.
