The former head of FP Canada and a one-time general counsel at the Ontario Securities Commission have joined the regulator’s independent Investor Advisory Panel (IAP).

Cary List, who retired this year as president and CEO of FP Canada, will join the OSC’s investor advocacy group on Nov. 1. List spent 21 years at FP Canada and served on the inaugural National Steering Committee for Financial Literacy. He received a lifetime achievement in financial planning award last month.

Former OSC general counsel Jim Sinclair will join the panel at the same time. Sinclair spent five years at the OSC, where he helped establish the whistleblower program. He also served as director of legal services with Ontario’s Ministry of Finance, and worked in other legal and compliance roles in the private sector.

List and Sinclair will replace Patti Best and Harvey Naglie, who joined the advisory panel in 2017.

The IAP advises and comments on proposed rules and investor protection initiatives, consulting with a broad range of investors to represent their views.
