Denis Blackburn has joined Kitchener, Ont.–based Financial Horizons Group and will succeed James McMahon as president, Quebec region.

McMahon, who joined Financial Horizons in 2012, plans to retire at the end of the year. He has worked in the financial services industry since 1978.

“[McMahon] has been integral to the sustained success of our organization and a key partner to advisors and industry partners in Quebec,” said David Stewart, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Financial Horizons, in a release.

Blackburn comes to Financial Horizons from Lévis, Que.–based Desjardins Group where he held the role of vice president, sales performance and network management. Prior to his time with Desjardins, Blackburn spent 20 years working at Montreal-based National Bank of Canada.

“Denis is the ideal leader for this role,” said McMahon in the release. “He ‘gets’ advisors and will help bring advisors in the region to the next level.”

Blackburn and McMahon will work together for the rest of the year as part of the transition process.
