A repeat offender and one-time fugitive from justice has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for a variety of securities and bail violations.

The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) says that Vancouver’s Won Sang Shen “Craig” Cho (aka Jae Kim) has been ordered to spend 15 months in jail and to serve 18 months on probation after pleading guilty to eight charges, including trading without registration, making misrepresentations and violating a BCSC order against him.

He also pleaded guilty to violating his bail conditions and failing to show up for his trial that was slated to be held last October.

After skipping out on that trial, Cho was arrested in Toronto last November, thanks to a joint effort by Toronto police, the BCSC and the Ontario Securities Commission’s Joint Serious Offences Team. He was subsequently returned to Vancouver and has remained in custody since.

In 2017, Cho was charged with securities law violations after raising $270,000 from five investors to finance online gambling and sports betting businesses.

The BCSC says that its investigators subsequently discovered that he’d also traded in securities, violating a lifetime ban imposed by the BCSC in 2013. He was banned after a regulatory hearing panel determined that he committed fraud, made false statements and illegally distributed securities.
