Toronto-based Epic Investment Services has welcomed industry veteran Kevin Sullivan to its board of directors.

Effective Aug. 25, Sullivan became the fifth member of the real estate investment firm’s board and its only independent director. The co-CEO of the firm, Jeff Kohn, said in a release that Sullivan was chosen based on his 25 years of industry experience, which will help the firm execute its growth strategy.

Sullivan, who’s currently president of advisory firm KMS Capital Ltd., previously served as deputy chairman of GMP Capital Inc. before resigning from his post in February. He had worked at GMP Capital since its inception in 1995 and held prominent roles such as president and CEO, the release said.

Sullivan co-founded the sales and trading operations of GMP Securities L.P. and, as CEO of GMP Capital, he was involved in initiatives such as the creation of independent investment dealer Richardson GMP.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that Kevin Sullivan is the current deputy Chairman of GMP Capital Inc.
