Each week, Advisor’s Edge summarizes notable management shifts across the financial and wealth management industry.

  • The Investment Industry Association of Canada (IIAC) welcomed a group of more than 10 individuals who will advise the organization on issues impacting investors and markets. The group comprises industry veterans and former leaders, who will be called advisors, and the IIAC said in a release that their experience and expertise will result in thought leadership. The group includes former leaders from big banks and wealth management companies, such as Rick Annaert, Steve Donald and Steve Geist. Read the full list.
  • Bill Morneau will join Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) board of directors effective Nov. 1. From leading human resources and pension services provider Morneau Shepell (based in Toronto and now called LifeWorks) for more than 20 years to serving as Canada’s Minister of Finance for five years, alongside other experience, Morneau will help the bank execute its growth strategy, a release said.
  • Debbie Adams, senior wealth advisor, and associate Tammy St. Martin have joined Wellington-Altus Private Wealth Inc. in Toronto, from TD Wealth Private Investment Advice. Adams has worked in the industry for more than 20 years, with her tenure also including time at New York–based Merrill Lynch. St. Martin has more than three decades of administrative experience, according to her biography.
  • René Douville has been named special advisor for BMO Commercial Bank, Canada, effective Nov. 1. The appointment follows seven years with BMO as head of corporate finance in Quebec, and a release said he’ll work closely with BMO Capital Markets partners and the heads of family-run businesses under private wealth. Viviane Croux has been appointed in Douville’s place, overseeing BMO Commercial Bank’s business in Quebec and leading the corporate finance team. She comes from TD Commercial Banking and has more than 20 years of experience in the industry.
  • The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has made board appointments. Jean-Paul Servais — who’s chairman of Belgium’s Financial Services and Markets Authority, vice-chair of the IOSCO board, and chair of the European Regional Committee — will replace chairman Ashley Alder who served for six years. Two vice-chairs will take Servais’s place: Ariizumi Shigeru, vice-commissioner for international affairs, Financial Services Agency, Japan; and Rostin Behnam, chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
