Industry moves this week

Each week, Advisor.ca summarizes notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Paul Grimes, senior vice-president of distribution for the independent advisors network with iA Financial Group, will retire in June 2024. In his place, Pierre Vincent has been appointed senior vice-president, distribution, with oversight of all of the company’s individual insurance, savings and retirement distribution networks. Vincent’s appointment takes effect on Nov. 1. Grimes has worked with iA Financial since 1988, with the company saying he’s a “well-known and respected industry figure.” Vincent joined as part of a merger in 2010 and is currently senior vice-president, distribution and insurance product development.   • Nancy Bertrand has taken on the role of global market manager, head of Citi Private Bank Canada. She succeeds Bob McGuire, “who retired earlier this month,” an internal announcement said. Bertrand has been with the company for nearly 12 years, most recently as a managing director. She has more than 20 years of experience, the announcement noted, saying she’s “a passionate advocate for the franchise and its clients, partnering with our other lines of business in Canada to generate cross-sell opportunities.”
  • Dan Dervaitis has joined Wellington-Altus Financial Inc. as senior vice-president for wealth strategy and advisor enablement. He has nearly 25 years of industry experience and will help advisors work on their practices, including succession planning. He most recently worked with Richardson Wealth as director of business strategy and analysis.
  • Randall Alberts is now senior vice-president and national sales manager with CI Global Asset Management. He oversees the CI GAM retail sales team, reporting to Jennifer Sinopoli, executive vice-president and head of distribution. He first joined the company in 2020 and has worked in the industry for 28 years. Also with CI GAM, Jodie deMunnik is now regional vice-president for Western Canada; Michael Seccareccia is regional vice-president for central Canada; and Joseph Gagliano is regional vice-president for Eastern Canada.
  • Mawer Investment Management Ltd. has announced several organizational updates. Effective July 1, Christian Deckart will be chief investment officer. He’s been with the firm since 2013 and in the role of deputy CIO since 2018. Manar Hassan-Agha is now a co-manager for the Mawer Global Equity strategy, working under Deckart. Effective April 1, Samir Taghiyev will be lead manager of Mawer’s Canadian Small Cap strategy, working alongside co-manager Jeff Mo. And effective April 1, Steven Visscher will lead Mawer’s Balanced and Global Balanced strategies, for which he’s been a co-manager since 2018. 
  • Less than a month after restructuring its operations, BMO Private Wealth Canada has adjusted its leadership, with Meghan Meger now sole head of the division. Read more.
