Jon Kilfoyle has moved to Wellington-Altus Financial Inc. from IG Wealth Management where he was senior vice-president of investments for more than five years.

Taking on the role of executive vice-president of products and platforms with Wellington-Altus, Kilfoyle will focus on the firm’s custom client solutions, a release said. The firm hasn’t previously offered proprietary investment products.

One of Kilfoyle’s goals, a statement from the firm said, will be building investment solutions for Wellington-Altus advisors and their clients while maintaining a model of open architecture.

“We anticipate providing both in-house and third-party product options to give Wellington-Altus advisors freedom of choice in investment solutions for their clients,” Kilfoyle said in a statement.

He will oversee the firm’s asset management arm as well as its U.S. platform, as president of both Wellington-Altus Asset Management Inc. and Wellington-Altus USA Inc. The firm’s U.S.-focused subsidiary helps advisors offer managed accounts and other services to clients across North America.

Prior to his most recent position with IG Wealth, Kilfoyle held vice-president positions with RBC Dominion Securities Inc. and National Bank Financial Inc., and also with Wellington West Capital Inc., which was started by Wellington-Altus founder and chair Charlie Spiring.

Shaun Hauser, Wellington-Altus founder and CEO, said in the release that Kilfoyle will help the firm offer “cutting edge” products. At IG Wealth, the release noted, Kilfoyle led the development of investment solutions for high-net-worth clients.

Kilfoyle said in the release that he’s joining the firm for its “collaborative” executive team and “elite collection of entrepreneurial advisors who value freedom and a platform committed to putting their clients first.”

Wellington-Altus has more than $20 billion in AUA and more than 90 advisor teams.

Here are some other notable moves across the financial industry.

  • The Osachoff Wealth Advisory Group, based in Vancouver, has also joined Wellington-Altus. Comprised of senior wealth advisor and senior portfolio manager Tony Osachoff, senior associate investment advisor Tiffany Thiam and associate Sarah McQuaid, the team came from BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc. Osachoff has been in the industry since 1992, the bulk of his career with BMO Nesbitt Burns, while Thiam joined the team in 2006 and McQuaid joined that bank brokerage in 2015.
  • John Montalbano and Carrie Russell have joined the board of directors with Vancouver-based Nicola Wealth Management. Montalbano has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, including as CEO of RBC Global Asset Management. Russell’s career also spans several decades and includes senior roles with two of the Big Six banks. The two join previously appointed independent directors Tom Shepansky and Anne-Marie Thomas, the firm noted in a LinkedIn post.
