Long-term care facility lets elderly teach kids

A long-term care home in Saskatoon, Sask., has launched a program that lets seniors teach grade six students life lessons, reports globalnews.ca.

The iGen Experience allows students to attend Sherbrooke Community Centre, where they’ll get the opportunity to interact with the elderly, while still attending the affiliated elementary school. The project “attempts to fight the plagues of long-term care: loneliness, helplessness and boredom,” reports Global News.

Clients in need of long-term care facilities for their parents or themselves could look for similar programs.

For the students’ part, they keep a daily journal, share their knowledge of technology, and practice language and literacy skills with elders.
