Paul Holba named new chief investment officer at Empire Life

Paul Holba is the new chief investment officer for Empire Life Investments Inc.

Holba was previously vice-president, retail distribution at Kingston, Ont.-based Empire Life Investments. In his new role, he has also joined the executive team of corporate parent Empire Life Insurance Company, the firm said Monday.

Holba joined Empire Life’s retail distribution division in 2009. A chartered financial analyst, he earned a Bachelor of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo in 1988, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Before joining Empire Life in 2009, Holba had been vice-president of national accounts at BMO Guardian. He has also worked for Dynamic Mutual Funds and AIM Trimark Investments.

Holba has “deep knowledge of the investment and insurance sectors and has proven himself as a highly respected and engaging leader within the company and the industry,” Empire Life CEO Mark Sylvia stated in a release.

Other recent Empire Life executive appointments include senior vice-president of capital management Edward Gibson, who was appointed in December. Also at that time, Empire Life announced the appointment of Rebecca Rycroft as chief financial officer and Christine Jewell as vice-president and chief compliance officer.
