The Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) has named Aurèle Courcelles and Kwok Sum Ho as the 2018 Fellow of FPSC recipients.

Created in 2011, the Fellow of FPSC recognizes those who have helped advance FPSC’s purpose and certified financial planner (CFP) professional standards.

Courcelles is assistant vice-president for tax and estate planning at IG Wealth Management’s advanced financial planning division in Winnipeg. He’s advocated for broader adherence to CFP standards and influenced many advisors to pursue CFP certification, a release says.

Courcelles’ regular media appearances have provided education about financial planning and the importance of working with CFP professionals, and he has volunteered extensively with FPSC, including helping to develop exam content.

Ho, an associate professor of finance at York University’s school of administrative studies, has contributed to the financial planning profession through research, writing and education, says the release. He designed and teaches a financial planning course—part of FPSC-approved core curriculum—and co-authored a financial planning textbook, among other academic pursuits.

Ho also contributed to the work of the Financial Planning Foundation and is a member of the foundation’s research committee.

Fellow of FPSC candidates are nominated by their peers, and recipients are selected by an independent committee.
