At a leadership awards ceremony on Tuesday, Women in Capital Markets (WCM) recognized the contributions of several senior executives across four categories.

For their contributions toward gender diversity and inclusion at their firms, BMO Capital Markets CEO and group head Pat Cronin, and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) managing director and head of portfolio management Tamara Finch received the WCM Award for Transformational Leadership.

In the rising star category, which recognizes high-performing professionals with entrepreneurial spirit, leadership and social responsibility, the following six women were honoured:

  • Carla Deeks, director, corporate banking – global power, infrastructure and mining, at Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets
  • Mélanie Dussarrat, director, FX e-trading, e-solutions group, at CIBC Capital Markets
  • Jennifer Diana Lee, principal, strategy and risk, OTPP
  • Aliyah Mohamed, director, investment banking, at TD Securities
  • Jackie Nixon, director, equity capital markets, at RBC Capital Markets
  • Maria Tihotchi, director, global structured products, trading products, at BMO Capital Markets

For excellence in innovation, or for taking steps to improve diversity and inclusion in a new way, two recipients were recognized: the RBC Vision Women’s Leadership MSCI Canada Index ETF, which seeks to drive board diversity across the country; and Scotiabank’s global banking and markets diversity and inclusion office, which managing director Wendy Smith formed in 2015.

The WCM Outstanding Volunteer Award was given to two volunteers who champion the organization’s mission through their work ethic. Leanne Herbst, director, trading business management, at TD Securities, and Farialle Pacha, associate investment advisor at The Kaufman Wealth Group, Richardson GMP, received the award.
