Why did you write the CFP exam?

Title protection rules, employer requirements and a desire to serve clients better are motivating financial professionals to get their certified financial planner (CFP) certification.

A total of 604 people wrote the CFP exam in the most recent sitting, and a survey found that the majority (80%) chose to pursue CFP certification to “enhance their skills and serve clients better,” FP Canada said in a release.

Other reasons cited were title protection legislation (39%) and because the designation was required by an employer (31%).

“Canadians expect proven knowledge and skills from professional financial planners, and certified financial planner certification is widely recognized as the gold standard,” said Tashia Batstone, president and CEO of FP Canada, in the release.

“We would like to congratulate those who dedicated themselves to earning their certification — and wish them luck in their financial planning careers.”

The pass rate for first-time exam writers at the June sitting was 75%, the release said.
