FPSC announces board appointments

Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) is pleased to announce new appointments to its board of directors effective immediately, for the 2011-2012 term. At the June 23 board of directors meeting, FPSC’s member organizations voted to approve the slate of new nominees to the Board.

Chair: Jim Kraft, CA, CFP, vice-president, BMO Life Assurance Company. Providing advice and consultation to clients for over 20 years, Kraft has also earned a Master of Tax (MTAX) degree from the University of Waterloo and is actively involved in the area of professional development as an author and program facilitator. He assumes the role of chair after serving two years as vice-chair.

Vice-chair: Lisa Pflieger, CGA, CFP, department leader, financial planning, Edward Jones. Pflieger has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, and she is responsible for Edward Jones’ financial planning software and for providing assistance to financial advisors on complex client cases. Pflieger was voted to her role as vice-chair after serving as a director on the board since 2006.

Three new directors were also appointed:

Director: Gilles Sinclair, FICB, Pl. Fin., assistant vice-president, distribution alliances and channels, B2b Trust. Sinclair brings more than 30 years of industry experience to the FPSC board and his perspective ensures a national view of financial planning in Canada. He has previously served on the board of Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF), most recently as chair and past-chair. Sinclair was elected to the board by FPSC’s seven member organizations.

Director (Public Seat): Cheri Eklund, LL.B., Level 1 grievance adjudicator (senior manager/civilian member), RCMP. Eklund is a lawyer and has been employed by the RCMP since 1998. She brings extensive experience with not-for-profit boards and a wealth of experience in governance and ethics.

Director: Catherine Wood, MBA, CFP, CLU, vice-president, wealth management and insurance, Qtrade Financial Group. Wood brings more than 15 years of experience dedicated to helping financial professionals embrace an integrated financial management approach. She has worked with leading national financial institutions including an insurer, a financial planning firm, a tier-one bank and currently a full-service dealer. Wood was elected by the CFP professional community.

We look forward to the guidance and energy this group of talented and committed professionals will bring to our work,” says Jim Kraft, FPSC’s new chair. “Their experience will help FPSC advance towards our mission and a vision where Canadians improve their lives by engaging in financial planning.”
