The Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) is rebranding with a new name and greater scope.

Effective Apr. 1, 2019, the council will transition to FP Canada, says a release, and will expand its purview to include “elevating the practice of financial planning.”

Specifically, FP Canada’s mandate will be to lead the advancement of professional financial planning, through two divisions:

  • FP Canada Standards Council, which will continue in its certification capacity, and
  • FP Canada Institute, which will provide tools and services for skills development in financial planning.

“As technology advances, so must the role of the human professional,” said Cary List, president and CEO of FPSC, in the release. “FP Canada will steer the strategic direction of the financial planning profession to ensure relevance of the human planner in an increasingly technological world.”

Last week in a letter to CSA, IFIC proposed that advisory titles should include “financial planner” where advisors have the associated certification.
