Manulife changes portfolio management for several funds

Manulife Investments has appointed new subadvisors and portfolio managers for a number of its mutual funds.

The firm announced changes to 11 funds on Thursday. The investment objectives are not affected.

For the Manulife Asia Equity Class, Kenglin Tan has replaced Linda Csellak as lead portfolio manager. Tan, a member of the Asia Pacific ex Japan investment team, joined Manulife in 2006 and has 18 years of investment industry experience, the firm said in a release.

Manulife Asset Management (U.S.) will become the portfolio subadvisor for the Manulife Global Dividend Growth Fund, the Manulife Global Dividend Growth Class, the Manulife Global Equity Unconstrained Fund and the Manulife Global Equity Unconstrained Class, replacing Standard Life Investments Limited and Standard Life Investments (USA) Limited (now doing business as Aberdeen Standard Investments). The changes are effective around Sept. 4.

For the dividend funds, Paul Boyne of Manulife Asset Management will be the new lead portfolio manager, the release said.

The global equity funds will be managed by Jonathan White, managing director and senior portfolio manager, and Sandy Sanders, senior managing director and senior portfolio manager.

For the Manulife International Value Equity Fund and Manulife International Focused Fund, Switzerland-based Pictet Asset Management Limited will become the portfolio subadvisor, replacing Manulife Asset Management (U.S.), the release said. The funds will be managed by Pictet’s Fabio Paolini, head of EAFE equities, and Benjamin Beneche, senior investment manager.

Those changes are effective around Oct. 31.

Later this year, managing director Doug McGraw will leave the firm, the release said. He will stay on into the fourth quarter of 2018 to help manage the transition for the Manulife Global Dividend Fund, Manulife Global Dividend Class, Manulife Global Strategic Balanced Yield Fund and Manulife Global All Cap Focused Fund. Paul Boyne will continue as lead manager for these funds and as head of the global equity team.
