Kelowna ranks top for business

Kelowna is king when it comes to Canada’s most entrepreneurial major cities, topping the 2016 entrepreneurial communities report by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

The report looks at how 121 economic regions promote entrepreneurship. Each is scored each out of 100, using 14 indicators across three main categories:

  • Presence — indicates the scale and growth of business ownership
  • Perspective — indicates optimistic expectations and growth plans
  • Policy — indicates local government action on business taxation and regulation

Kelowna snags the top spot away from the Calgary area, which was number one for the last five years.

  • Kelowna, B.C. (72.0)
  • Toronto periphery (69.1)
  • Barrie, Ont. (68.8)
  • Guelph, Ont. (64.8)
  • Sherbrooke, Que. (64.5)
  • Calgary periphery (63.5)
  • Victoria, B.C. (63.5)
  • Vancouver periphery (62.6)
  • Montreal periphery (61.2)
  • Abbotsford-Mission, B.C. (61.2)
