The Canada Revenue Agency has plans to cut 600 Ottawa-based jobs, reports the Ottawa Citizen.

The cuts are part of the Conservative government’s plan to trim $60.6 million from CRA operating costs by 2015.

“Bob Campbell, president of the Union of Taxation Employees, said the impact of the reductions will be cushioned by a large number of vacant positions that the agency hasn’t filled. Of the 600 jobs affected, about 309 will be taken care of by vacancies and another 50 will be vacated as people leave or retire,” the report says.
