Manulife releases 2012 accountability statement

Manulife recently released its 2012 accountability statement, which outlined its commitments to economic, environmental and social philanthropy.

The report highlights that above and beyond its ongoing business activities, the company has engaged in a broad range of additional initiatives throughout 2012. These benefited Canada, Asia and the United States. For example, Manulife was involved in a micro-insurance project in Vietnam, which helps female farmers gain cheap access to insurance coverage.

The company also encourages volunteerism among its employees, having contributed more than 300,000 hours to local charities throughout last year.

In the report, Manulife also highlights its investments in renewable energy, forest land management and volunteer programs. It says it’s helping protect biodiversity and fragile ecosystems around the world. Further, the company continued to adopt environmentally friendly practices in its global office locations and throughout its global real estate portfolio during 2012.
