BlackRock Asset Management has filed a preliminary prospectus for a series of balanced mutual funds.

Called the BlackRock Strategic Portfolios Series, the initiative will expand the company’s product suite.

Coupled with its iShares ETF business, the integrated retail platform of BlackRock Canada’s mutual fund strategies is being designed to meet the evolving needs of Canadian investors.

“Advisors and…investors want simple investment options that have the diversification, efficiency and transparency they need,” says Noel Archard, head of BlackRock Canada.

BlackRock already manages mutual fund platforms in over 35 countries, with more than US$420 billion in assets under management as of 2012.

In Canada, the company’s platform will package its entire suite of active and index products. More details will be released in coming months.
