If you serve clients who are interested in strategic philanthropy, there’s a new designation that may interest you.

The Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP), alongside post-secondary educational institute Knowledge Bureau and Spire Philanthropy, announced on Thursday that it’s jointly introduced the MFA™ Strategic Philanthropic Services Specialist designation. This will provide “specialized” credentials for those who help individuals and families with gift planning, a release says.

To get the designation, advisors must finish three online certificate courses within a year. The courses, which the release says will take approximately 100 hours to complete, focus on three areas:

  • how to incorporate philanthropy into a practice in pragmatic terms;
  • how to focus on gift planning strategies and vehicles that are relevant to clients’ goals; and
  • practical experience with numerous working case studies that allow advisors to apply that knowledge.

Advisors can start the program in December and pre-registration is open.
