Margaret E. Franklin accepted the CFA Institute’s Alfred C. “Pete” Morley Distinguished Service Award last night.

The award signifies her outstanding contribution to the financial industry, both locally in Toronto and globally.

Aaron Low, vice-chair of CFA Institute’s board of governors, credited Franklin for persuading the global CFA Institute board (of which is former chair) to consider being more bold in its advocacy. Her efforts, he says, led to the CFA Institute’s current Future of Finance campaign.

In accepting the award, Franklin said, “Very rarely does one have the opportunity to serve with incredible people under a truly meaningful mission. When it happens, it doesn’t feel like service or effort at all.” She called upon CFAs to use their experience and insight to better serve clients and to mentor the next generation. “Even though this is a business of money, it’s never really been about the money,” she added.

Franklin donated her prize proceeds to CFA Society Toronto.
