The Responsible Investment Association (RIA) named the winners and finalists of the 2022 RIA leadership awards on Monday.

Launched in 2020, the awards acknowledge “the leadership and excellence” of RIA members in advancing responsible investment in Canada, the association said in a release.

In the “market education” category (institutional investors and financial institutions), Quebec City–based RGP Investments won for its ESG Head-to-Head Analysis project — a tool that allows advisors to compare portfolios and their outperformance from an ESG risk and sustainability perspective.

Desjardins Investments was a finalist in the category for its 2021 responsible investment education campaign.

RGP Investments also won in the “integration” category (institutional investors) for its RI Advisor Toolkit, which consists of a variety of products, resources and services that support client conversations about responsible investing.

Manulife Investment Management was a finalist in the category for its internal rating system of investment teams on their ESG approaches.

BMO Global Asset Management (BMO GAM) won in the “stewardship” category (institutional investors) for its project Climate Action: A Comprehensive Approach to Advancing the Energy Transition in Canada. The project supports a net-zero economy through such things as collaborative initiatives and stakeholder communication.

Global asset manager Ninety One was a finalist in the category for its indexes that assess countries’ climate risk and climate action.

Award submissions were assessed by a panel of eleven judges.

Melissa Shin, editorial director of Advisor’s Edge, was a judge for the RIA leadership awards.
