Wellington-Altus Private Wealth is expanding its service to clients in the U.S.

The Winnipeg-based wealth advisory firm announced on Thursday the launch of Wellington-Altus USA Inc., a registered investment advisor with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The new business will give Wellington-Altus advisors the ability to offer managed accounts to clients in the U.S. or to Canadian clients with U.S.-domiciled accounts.

“This platform will allow our advisors to provide their clients with a complete wealth management offering regardless of which side of the border they reside,” Rod Mahrt, executive vice president and senior portfolio manager with Wellington-Altus, said in a statement.

The offering includes two types of discretionary accounts: managed accounts, where advisors who are also portfolio managers make investment decisions on a client’s behalf; and, for advisors who aren’t portfolio managers, a U.S.-domiciled version of the firm’s proprietary platform that uses third-party money managers.
