Sprott Asset Management has announced that John Wilson will join the firm as senior portfolio manager, subject to regulatory approval. He will be the lead manager on core Canadian equity and core Canadian balanced mandates which the firm plans to launch.

“We are pleased to add a senior portfolio manager of John’s calibre to our team of investment professionals,” said Peter Grosskopf, CEO of Sprott Inc. “John has a history of delivering superior performance to investors and will fit in well with our team and culture. He is an independent thinker with a high conviction style of investing and a strong focus on protecting capital.”

Most recently, Wilson was chief investment officer of Cumberland Private Wealth Management. Prior to that, he was the founder of alternative investment manager DDX Capital Partner. He has also served as managing director at RBC Capital Markets, and as a director at UBS Canada.

“John’s core expertise and strategy fall within the investment categories that represent the largest pools of invested capital in Canada,” continued Mr. Grosskopf. “Our clients have been requesting that we offer products in these areas and we are confident that these strategies will be an ideal complement to our existing high-conviction funds.”
